Inter-Denominational
What is an Inter-Denominational Church? Inter-denominational (ID) churches are often confused with inter-faith churches. However, a huge difference exists between these two kinds of congregations. Christian denominations (such as Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, etc.) are all part of the same Christian faith. So an ID church is a congregation of people with differing denominational backgrounds, yet sharing in a common core of Christian doctrine. Inter-faith churches, by contrast, join together people of different faiths such as the Jewish faith, the Buddhist faith, the Muslim faith, etc., having different, perhaps even contradictory, doctrines. Also, ID doesn't necessarily mean non-denominational. Calvary Christian Center is supportive of the many Christian denominations within our community. We all share a common cause - that the kingdom of God be furthered. We share a commitment to the essentials of historic Christianity. Where we do differ on non-essentials and distinctive doctrines or practices, we labor to do so in a gracious manner. In summary, to say that Calvary Christian Center is an inter-denominational church is to recognize that our church family consists of people from a variety of denominational backgrounds, worshiping and serving together - and it's absolutely beautiful! Our purpose for being an ID church is not that of exclusion, but rather is to serve as an open door to greater outreach and fellowship for Christ's church. |
